Welcome to Abbots Leigh Manor

Making Abbots Leigh Manor your home.

We provide 24-hour nursing care for older people including those with terminal illnesses.

Abbots Leigh manor is an imposing 19th Century Manor House one mile from the Clifton Suspension Bridge. Kathy Bauer RGN is our home manager and we have a team of qualified nurses on duty at all times. We have both single and shared rooms for couples, all are fully furnished with en-suite facilities, private phones and televisions.

We enjoy an elevated position with wonderful views over the Severn Estuary and surrounding countryside and we stand in the expansive gardens laid out by Sir Egbert Cadbury

 The way we care

Kathy Bauer RNJG has been our home manager for 23 years. She leads a stable and committed team of nurses and carers and we never use agency staff. We encourage our residents to make their own daily decisions and we are as flexible as our residents want us to be. We can provide care for terminally ill individuals and our specialist knowledge in this area enables us to provide the necessary physical and emotional support for both resident and family in these difficult situations.

Activities and wellbeing

Our activities and wellbeing team organise three different activities per day, these include entertainers, gardening club, arts and crafts, exercise classes and a church service. We also have a large green house and a sunny patio overlooking ornamental ponds, a beautiful rockery and expansive lawns. Residents who want a change of scenery can also enjoy a car ride to places of local interest.

Recent activities have featured a marble silk scarf workshop, where residents enjoyed a delightful afternoon selecting and blending their own colours to design unique, beautiful silk scarves.

The gardening club remains one of our most popular activities. During the winter months, we simply move the sessions indoors so residents can continue enjoying their passion for gardening. In recent weeks, they've been crafting bird feeders and potting fresh plants.

Dining at the Manor

Our residents can have their meals in their room i9f they wish but we encourage everyone to come to the dining room for lunch, if they can, as this is the main meal of the day. Choice is available at all meals and snacks or drinks are available at any time of day. Our bar is open every evening for pre-dinner drinks and we have a shop where residents can purchase confectionary, toiletries, cards and so on.

Our rooms

Our rooms are fully furnished but we can normally make space for any items of furniture a resident wishes to bring with them and, witching our locality, we are happy to collect these items. Residents are welcome to move within the home if a preferred room becomes available and we have a number of very spacious rooms which are suitable for married couples.

Short stays

We offer respite care. This may be to help someone recuperate after a spell in hospital or to give family carers a break. New friendships are made and we often see respite residents more than once!

Testimonials

Mum has been at Abbots Leigh for around 18 months following a severe stroke. She has significant care needs and the staff at the home helped her settle in quickly and are always friendly and caring. When mum has experienced periods of discomfort they have identified the problem and taken appropriate actions promptly.

When we visit we are always made to feel welcome and the atmosphere feels like one big family. There are always different activities happening and the activities team are always open to suggestions for more options. The manager is always happy to discuss any aspect of mums care and any concerns we might have.

We are very happy with the care mum has received and would recommend it to anyone looking for a care home for their loved one (or themselves).

My mother has lived at Abbots Leigh Manor for over a year and is very well settled there, thanks to the support of Kathy and her excellent team. Everyone - nursing staff, carers, wellbeing team, reception, gardener - do their best to make this a comfortable, welcoming and inviting place to live.

My mother particularly loves the view from her room, the garden, which is beautiful by any standards, the programme of creative and cultural activities and trips out, especially if they involve an art gallery and a stop for cake somewhere.

The team have supported her health and wellbeing on every level - with problems identified quickly and appointments or interventions managed efficiently. It is such a relief not to have to worry if she is OK or wether an issue needs medical attention.

The village has a lovely cafe in the pub (fire in the winter, garden in the summer) and we have become regulars. The garden centre down the road has a nice tea shop too. We could not recommend AL more highly.

Abbots Leigh Nursing home has been wonderful for my Mum for the last 10 months. She settled in very quickly at the beginning of her time there because she had been a few times for respite care in 2024, so it was familiar to her. The staff and Management have made her feel welcome and safe. They are very kind, caring, attentive and considerate.

My Mum particularly loves the activities as there is always something on that she finds entertaining. We really appreciate t home cooked food and the thought that goes into freshly prepared meals.

I always talk about Abbots Leigh very highly to others, and so does my mum.

I have been at Abbots Leigh nursing home on three separate occasions for periods of six months or more receiving respite care. Prior to Abbots Leigh, I spent time in two other carehome nearby and neither were able to offer the quality of care and attention that I now receive.

The food is fresh and plentiful with choices at every meal. I enjoy a full English Breakfast, cooked lunch and homemade soups in the evening.

I feel very fortunate to have found this nursing home and would have no hesitation in recommending it.

Our fees

Our fees cover all the normal day-to-day needs of our residents including care and attention, food and consumables, laundry, entertainment, activities, and local excursions etc.  The majority of our residents are self-funding, meaning they pay for their own care, but anyone considering a move into a care home can ask their local authority’s adult social care department for advice about funding options.  Most of our residents (including self-funding residents) receive the Funded Nursing Contribution (FNC) which the NHS pays to cover the cost of a person’s nursing needs. Currently, the FNC is £254.06 per week. It’s paid directly to us and we deduct it from the resident’s bill.

Single room with en-suite (and shower):  £1,498 – £1,804 per week (£1,244 - £1,550pw net of FNC)

Shared room with ensuite including shower: £1,304pw (£1,050pw net of FNC)
